2024 Algerian presidential election. When & Where to vote in the UK?
Presidential elections are due to be held on 7 September 2024.
Independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune will face off against Abdelali Hassani Cherif, leader of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) party, and Youcef Aouchiche, first secretary of the Socialist Forces Front (FFS) party. The campaign will last twenty days, during which candidates will strive to gain support from more than 24 million registered voters by presenting their programs.
Tebboune: Continuing Social Support
Independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune reiterated his commitment to continuing social support policies aimed at assisting vulnerable groups and enhancing the purchasing power of Algerians. He pledged to promote economic development across various sectors. During a live appearance on the program “El Taabir El Mobashir,” Tebboune affirmed his intention to “maintain the economic and financial achievements realised thus far, support youth initiatives, and advance housing projects through diverse models”.
Aouchiche: “Vision for Tomorrow”
Youcef Aouchiche, representing the FFS, launched his campaign under the slogan “Vision for Tomorrow.” Engaging with the community in Algiers’ Bab El Oued district, he emphasized that his program addresses all aspects of development and stability in Algeria through strategic planning and foresight.
In his opening speech, Aouchiche highlighted that his program encompasses every dimension of national security while committing to uphold the state’s social character.
Cherif: Creating Opportunities
Abdelali Hassani Cherif, MSP’s candidate, launched his campaign titled “Forsa” (Opportunity) from the party’s headquarters. He has planned community activities in the capital before traveling to Blida province to meet at the home of the late movement founder Sheikh Mahfoud Nahnah.
In a televised address marking the start of his campaign, Cherif asserted that his program seeks to create new opportunities for progress and prosperity by reinforcing principles of moderation and balance. He stated that his program is directed toward all Algerians and serves as a foundation for achieving prosperity while fostering unity and stability, focusing on several key areas including social and economic development.
