Presidential elections in Algeria: Tebboune re-elected President of the Republic

The results of the Algerian presidential election of September 7 are in. Incumbent President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was re-elected in the first round for a second term at the head of the country with an overwhelming majority, according to the provisional results revealed this Sunday, September 8 by the president of the National Independent Electoral Authority (ANIE), Mohamed Charfi.

The average turnout was announced by the same official late Saturday evening, namely 48.03% at the national level and 19.57% for the vote of the national community established abroad.

Three candidates were in the running for this early election, the incumbent President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Abdelali Hassani Chérif, president of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) and Youcef Aouchiche, first secretary of the Front of Socialist Forces (FFS).

It was no surprise that the candidate-president came out on top. Abdelmadjid Tebboune obtained 5,329,253 votes, or 94.65% of the votes cast. In 2919, Tebboune was elected in the first round with 58.13% of the votes cast.

The outgoing president is followed by Abdelali Hassani Chérif with 178,797 votes (3.17%) and Youcef Aouchiche who obtained 122,146 votes, representing 2.16% of the votes cast.

Algeria: Tebboune re-elected president with more than 94% of the votes

The total number of votes cast was 5,630,196. The electorate has a total of 24,351,551 voters.

Mr. Charfi did not reveal the number of voters or the number of invalid ballots, which were therefore not counted.

The president of the Anie indicated that the electoral campaign and the vote took place calmly and surrounded by excellent conditions, ensuring that his body was equidistant from the three candidates.

The vote was honest and transparent, said Mohamed Charfi, who thanked all those who contributed to the success of the electoral process, the media, security services, judges, administrative personnel and Algerian consular services abroad.
